    Description

    This is a vintage commemorative plate of "The Maine" made by Wheeling Pottery and Compliments of Heyman Bros Clothiers in Wheeling West Virginia. It is "warranted white granite" Made In America.
    The USS Maine was a United States Navy ship that sank in Havana Harbor in February 1898, contributing to the outbreak of the Spanish-American War in April.
    One chip shown as well as crazing that is consistent with an item from the late 1800s. It is very heavy for a platter and weighs 2 pounds. It measures 11.5" by 8.25".
